Focus – The Importance of Execution.
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to play golf at one of the greatest courses in the world – Pebble Beach. On the 18th hole, one can easily become distracted by the incredible beauty of the water on your left, and the deep and distracting sand traps along your right. The first three people in our party all hit their ball into the water. Somehow, after seeing their demise, I just kept thinking about keeping my head down and executing a solid swing. The ball landed in the middle of the fairway, just where I had hoped.
There are many distractions in life and in business. To our left and to our right, there are often things and or people that can take our attention off of our basic responsibility and effect our ability to produce the desired result. Stay focused every day on what is most important in your life and business and you will be much happier with the results. Have a great day. Henry

Leading people is a perpetual journey that must remain in a state of constant change, adaptation, and flexibility. Never before in our lifetime have we experienced so much change in such a short span of time. The most effective leaders will discern carefully between the elements of leadership that are timeless, versus those areas where one must be open to new ways of accomplishing the desired task or vision. Listening, caring, empowering, honesty, and integrity are leadership elements that will always surpass time. These are the things that great leaders are known for. Henry

Hello friends, I am happy to announce that as of tonight, May 14, the book “Leading through Relationship First” is now available! Relationship First is a book about servant leadership, motivating others, and fostering trust within the employee – employer relationship. Throughout my career of almost 30 years in the corporate environment, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with and for many incredible individuals. Genuine leadership is about serving others and empowering them to be the best they can be. I hope you enjoy reading Relationship First and share it with your friends and work colleagues. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback as you work your way through the steps to building a championship team. Thanks, Henry

Hello everyone. Thanks for visiting our new website! Since retiring from Walmart this past February, my wife Caroline and I have been staying busy, as we have now settled into our home in Florida. While I miss all of the great people I had the pleasure of working with, I have thought of you often through my writing on our book Relationship First. I have been a little nostalgic as I rehearsed my first meeting and tour with Sam Walton. That moment and the subsequent encounters with Mr. Sam impacted my life and inspired the style of leadership that I would embrace and try to pass on throughout my career. I’ve come to appreciate all the great associates, leaders, friends, my wife, and my faith as I try to translate the attributes and ideas that have shaped my career and philosophy of servant leadership. Each one of you contributed and inspired this passion that has led me to want to write this book. I have enjoyed working on the book and we are on pace to publish some time 2015. I have also been staying busy with school and just this week reached the halfway point of completing my Masters Degree. I will finish my school around December of this year and I plan on starting a college teaching career in the spring of 2016. Thanks again for visiting our website. We will be sharing new excerpts from the book periodically so stop in for a visit when you get a few minutes to spare.  Blessings, H
